Zerocity gave leading local trainer Garnet Taylor a running double in the $123,000 Merlo Downs Capricornia Plate (1200m) at Rockhampton on Thursday.
Zerocity (2f Ferocity – Zero Isle by Danzero) stormed home in the straight to score a one-length victory in the Central Queensland’s premier juvenile event of the season. She won running away from Maximum Command (Court Command) and front-runner Buddy Rocks (Easy Rocking).
Taylor won the 2011 Capricornia Plate with Bonny the Viper who is by Merlo Downs sire Garrison Savannah (Danehill).
Zerocity is by Oaklands Stud sire Ferocity and her dam Zero Isle won five races in Victoria up to 2200m. Second dam Road To The Isles (Whiskey Road) is a half-sister to Golden Slipper winner Dark Eclipse.
Owner Bill Ouston purchased Zerocity for $10,000 as a foal from Oaklands Stud at the 2010 Magic Millions National Sale. She was re-offered at the 2011 Capricornia yearling sale but failed to reach a $10,000 reserve.
Rockhampton staged its Capricornia yearling sale’s linked races at Callaghan Park on Thursday after they were postponed from last Saturday due to flooding of the Fitzoy River.
King Ray (King Of Happiness) scored a near four length victory in the Capricornia 3YO Championship (1300m). His was a $20,000 buy from the Gainsborough Lodge draft at the 2010 Capricornia yearling sale.
