Zabeel still going strong at 25

Cambridge Stud champion Zabeel (NZ) continues to rewrite the record books.  

Gerry Harvey’s homebred Zauberin increased Zabeel’s career stats to 137 stakes winners of 325 stakes races when she was successful in the LR Tokyo City Cup (1800m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Zauberin (6m Zabeel – Zali by Danehill) had previously been stakes placed in both the Listed SAJC Port Adelaide Cup and Listed Bendigo Cup.  Her dam is a sister or half-sister to 9 winners including the black-type winners Murtajill (Rock of Gibraltar), Sunset Run (End Sweep) and Bradbury’s Luck (Redoute?s Choice).

Now 25, Zabeel has sired 920 individual winners of 3078 races at 72% strike-rate.

Among them are 41 individual Group 1 winners and he is closing in on the record of 45 held by his own sire Sir Tristram (Sir Ivor).

Zabeel foals on the ground at Cambridge this season include colts from Salsa (O’Reilly), Prized Gem (Prized), Twin Town (Halling), Gwens Rules (Faltaat) and Apollo Treasure (Apollo).

His new-season filly foals are from; Tinderbox (Marwina), Danevade (Danehill), Sandalwood (Sandtrap), Musical Note (Marscay), Franny (Selkirk) and Bennelong Belle (Marscay).
