Winning run for Mungrup Express

Mungrup Stud stallion Danehill Express has rocketed up the Australian second-season table since the New Year.

The national winners’ premiership is headed by Casino Prince (21) and Magnus (19) with Danehill Express and Darley sire Hard Spun both bubbling under the top two on 17.

The winning run for Danehill Express isn’t about to stop anytime soon with last week’s Pinjarra trial winners Bayella and Petals due to debut.

Bayella is raced by De Grey Park studmaster Dick Vincent and she has been a comfortable winner of two hit-outs in recent weeks.  Her dam Lady Ruby (Rubiton) has thrown five winners including Maxerelle (Strategic) who won twice at Flemington and was also G3 placed at headquarters in a Matron Stakes.

Trainer Bruce Watkins has nominated Bayella for the Prince Of Wales Hotel Maiden (1200m) at Bunbury this Thursday.

Petals is also bred to show up when she faces the starter for the first time.  She is trained by Bob Macpherson for owner-breeder John Molloy and they also race her older sister The Danehill Rose who provided Danehill Express with his first winner at Ascot in February 2012.

Their dam Rose of Thunder (Metal Storm) won 6 races including the 2003 Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

It’s all good news for Mungrup Stud’s Gray Williamson who has 14 of 23 the Danehill Express yearlings catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions on February 19 and 20.

Among them is the half-brother to last Saturday’s first-up Ascot winner Galiletto (Lot 179).  The Dan Morton trained gelding has been handled patiently and that will pay off for connections in the months ahead.  He is by Coolmore champion Galileo and carries the same cross as Yarradale Stud sire Discorsi.

Galiletto is from a Metal Storm mare and the former Mungrup champion is also the damsire of Dream Lifter who credited Danehill Express with his 17th winner this season.

Dream Lifter is the only foal of LR Jungle Mist Classic winner Ebony Storm.  He is trained by Paul Hunter and was a very impressive debut winner at Albany on Sunday despite drawing wide against older rivals.

Mungrup Stud’s consignment for the Perth Magic Millions will be available for inspection at the Belmont Park sales complex this Sunday, February 17.

Hoofnote:   Danehill Express added another notch to his overall winner-count when Joyous Express claimed the Celebrations Maiden Stakes in Singapore on Monday evening.  He is out of Rumours (Umatilla) and was a $25,000 buy from Mungrup Stud at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.
