Winning Formula for Freedmans

With the Formula 1 in town, sustained speed was the order of the day in Singapore on Sunday and Better Be The One played his part with a G3 victory in the Garden City Trophy (1200m).

Better Be The One (5g More Than Ready – Common Smytzer by Snippets) jumped straight to the front before holding off the challenges of recent Group winners Argy Bargy and Ato to record his first feature race win at Kranji.

“He was successful in Listed company at Flemington before coming here,” trainer Michael Freedman said.  “It is a big thrill to win a race like this after he reached his mark back in Melbourne.”

Blue Sky bought him from Makybe at the 2008 Inglis Easter yearling sale for $485,000 and he accrued over $250,000 with Lee Freedman in Australia under the name of Common Interest.

“Julian Blaxland and I were keen to send him to Singapore,” part-owner John O’Neill said. “He was a nice horse back home and we will get him ready for another trip to Dubai next March.”

Better Be The One was a close third behind J J The Jet Plane in the G2 Al Quoz Sprint (1000m) at Meydan earlier this year.

He is by Vinery champion More Than Ready and his dam Common Smytzer won in Sydney and Melbourne.  The mare has also foaled G3 Maribyrnong Plate winner Exceedingly Good (Exceed and Excel) and she has has a yearling colt by More Than Ready.
