Winning Card starts Swettenham Summer Championship

Locally trained galloper Finishing Card took an early lead in the Swettenham Stud Summer Championship at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

Finishing Card (6g Platinum Scissors – Helen by Quest For Fame) earned 10 points in Heat 1 of the Swettenham Championship.  He scored by a half-length in an on-pace dominated race from Chord (Distant Music) and Scottish Border (Danewin).

The Clinton McDonald trained gelding had won at Geelong (2) and Cranbourne as a four year-old but was sidelined for the majority his five year-old season.  He won second-up at Caulfield on December 12 and doubled up at his home track after shadowing the front-runner Scottish Border.

Finishing Card was bred by Muzaffar Yaseen.  The Teeley Assets owner also bred and raced his sire Platinum Scissors to a G1 victory in the 2002 AJC Spring Champion Stakes.

Platinum Scissors is a younger brother of Redoute’s Choice but fertility issues limited him to five seasons at stud.  Finishing Card is from his second crop and is raced by John Bath, Graham Eccles, Russell Fynmore, Nick Hooper, Tony Mangan, Michael Sadler, Lorraine Smith, Shane Tap and Heike Truscott.

Teeley Assets also bred and raced Redoute’s Choice himself.  Part of the Swettenham Championship prize is a free service to the Redoute’s Choice Group 1 winning sprinter Master of Design.

Master of Design stands for a $12,500 (inc gst) service fee at Swettenham.

The Swettenham Stud Summer Championship consists of 10 Heats with the Final scheduled for Saturday, February 2 at Caulfield.  More information can be viewed here.
