Wild Rain an Astute buy for Cressfield

Leading Hunter Valley nursery Cressfield has purchased Group 2 winning mare Wild Rain in a deal brokered by Astute Bloodstock (FBAA).

“She is a stunning athlete, with tremendous speed and being free of Danehill blood she will be easy to mate with most of Australia’s leading stallions,” said Louis Le Metayer of Astute Bloodstock

“We identified Wild Rain as a superior racehorse early in her career and we are thrilled to be able to purchase a mare of such quality.  Wild Rain has departed for her new home and we wish Cressfield the very best of luck with her.”

Wild Rain was initially purchased by trainer Mark Kavanagh for $150,000 at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions when she was offered by Arrrowfield Stud on behalf of long-standing client John Leaver.

She is a daughter of Manhattan Rain from North Flower (Rory’s Jester) who is a winning half-sister to the dam of Australian Horse of the Year Northerly.

Wild Rain thrashed a Kyneton 3yo maiden field by 8 lengths in December 2014 and graduated to black-type victories in the G2 McEwen Stakes at Moonee Valley and G3 Sir John Monash Stakes at Caulfield.

“She had the kind of pace that puts early pressure on her rivals and then go up a gear-change when challenged,” Kavanagh recalled.  “When you are able to run quick sectionals like her, it makes it hard for the chasers.”

Cressfield Stud owner Bruce Neill has gathered a Group 1 winning band of broodmares at his property north of Scone and among them are Platelet (Goodwood Hcp), Mid Summer Music (Stradbroke Hcp), Champagne (Mackinnon St), Regimental Gal (Australia St), Our Egyptian Raine (NZ Railway St) & River Dove (Oakleigh Plate).
