Widden Valley transfers to Yarra Valley

Little Yarra Lodge is the new home of Anabaa stallion Widden Valley.

Owner Peter Grundy has set up the property in Victoria’s Yarra Valley and will stand the former Moorooklye Park resident for a $2,200 (inc gst) fee.

Anabaa (USA) sired Widden Valley from Group 1 winning mare Rose Archway (Archway). He was bought for $900,000 as a yearling at the 2008 Inglis Easter Sale and in a short career, won twice at Wyong before bowing out with a minor placing in the Inglis 3YO Guineas at Scone.

“Widden Valley was a horse with tremendous ability and a great attitude but he couldn’t get over injuries sustained as a youngster,” trainer Chris Waller said.  “He had so much natural talent and would have been a Group horse, for sure.”

To date, he’s had 6 winners from 20 to the races including Eerised who ran fourth in the recent G3 Frank Packer Plate at Randwick.

Widden Valley retired to Hollylodge Thoroughbreds before transferring to Moorookyle Park.  “Nioka Wozny has a few nice stallions at Moorookyle now so I thought it was time to get my own place and bring him home,” Grundy explained.  “The moves haven’t helped getting consistent mare numbers but he’s going to be based with me for good.”

Grundy can be reached for more information on 0417 720 468.
