Wicked relation firing for Discorsi

Trainer Brett Pope is looking forward to a profitable year with his raw recruit Klondike King.

The Discorsi gelding produced a powerful last-to-first sprint to win the Westspeed 3YO Hcp (1400m) at Ascot on New Year’s Day.  He was backing up after a debut win at Pinjarra on December 14 and a nice third at Ascot on December 27.

Pope is a full-book on the family – Klondike King is from a half-sister to his former stable star Solidwickedcruel.

“This is only his first campaign – he’s still learning,” Pope explained.  “It’s going to be exciting when he puts it all together.  He’s by a Galileo sire out of a Serheed mare so is bred to get over more ground.”

Klondike King (3g Discorsi – Bayview Belle by Serheed) will do well to emulate Solidwickedcruel who won 9 races and $270,000.  He earned black-type in the 2008 Raubon Stakes and was competitive against top-class gallopers Dark Target and Gilded Venom.

Discorsi is making an impact with his first-crop three year-olds.  Settler’s Creek has won 3 of his last 4 starts at Ascot – the only loss coming in the G2 WA Guineas.  He leads the charge ahead of recent winners Discoville (Belmont), Disco Metal (Northam) and Touch the Net (Pinjarra).

There are a 6 Discorsi yearlings catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions in February.  First to parade is the half-brother to black-type galloper Rusty Peaches (Lot 245) and last of the half-dozen is the colt from a stakes-performed mare Dane Shakira (Lot 392) on account of home-base Yarradale Stud.
