Well-timed winner by Oratorio

Coruscation will never be rated anything more than a capable Saturday horse but he picks the right time to turn up for Oratorio (Aus).

The Paul Jordan trained gelding helped Oratorio clinch a Sunspeed 2YO premiership with a late-season victory at Belmont in July 2013.  He came to the party again with a powerful final furlong at Ascot on Saturday.

The Mungrup Stud champion sired career-high earnings of $2.57 million last season and he erased that figure with four months of the current one remaining.

Top colt Lucky Street sent him past the previous record in the G2 Karrakatta Plate a fortnight ago and Coruscation bumped the new figure up to $2.70 million after winning the final race on the WATC Derby card.

“We’ve had to work through a few problems and he’s had no luck recently,” trainer Paul Jordan said.  “It was a great ride by Craig (Staples) – he got off the fence to the best part of track in the straight.”

Coruscation (4g Oratorio – Lightning Storm by Metal Storm) cost $36,000 from Mungrup Stud at the 2012 Perth Magic Millions and he has earned $247,700 for a syndicate headed by Harvey Crossman.

Oratorio (Stravinsky) is 3 away from equalling his best mark of 84 wins in a season and he’s just one shy of 6 stakes wins set in 2009-10.  He will also claim the WA 2YO and 3YO titles and is exceptional value at an $11,000 (inc gst) service fee this year.
