Welcome QTIS Bonus for Kentaur

Kentaur qualified for a welcome bonus when breaking a class-record in the Sky Racing Channel 521 Hcp at Doomben on Saturday.

The Eagle Farm based gelding banked a $21,000 QTIS bonus on top of $32,000 in prizemoney after clocking 2.03.78s for 2000 metres in the Sky Racing Channel 521 Hcp.

Kentaur (3g Ukok Warrior – Lakey Lady by Mogambo) is trained by Shaun McCarthy for the Wells family who bred him.  He had failed to reach a $10,000 reserve at the 2011 Capricorn yearling sale.

QTIS bonuses of $154,000 were up for grabs across the State at Townsville, Brisbane, Rockhampton, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast last week.  Only $25,000 of that total was returned to the QTIS coffers.

Kentaur is the last foal of USA bred mare Lakey Lady following prior winners by Monongahela, Supremo, Lion Hunter (4) and Stromberg Carlson.

His sire Ukok Warrior is a Danehill son of Randwick G2 winner Peruzzi (Zabeel) who is a grand-daughter of breed-shaping mare Eight Carat.

Ukok Warrior was trained by Robbie Laing and won twice from four starts at the Victorian provincials before retiring to Ken Turner’s Alma Vale Stud on the Darling Downs.  He died there in April 2012 with five crops on the ground.
