Way In (NZ) kicked off the NZ Bloodstock Insurance Pearl Series with a two-length victory at Avondale on Monday.
The Shaune Ritchie trained filly raced professionally on debut in the NZB Insurance Pearl Series 2YO Bonus (800m). She came around the corner close to the rail as many of the other two-year-olds raced greenly and then scampered away under Sam Spratt.
In addition to first prizemoney, her connections collected an $8,000 Level C Bonus for being Pearl Series nominated. Avondale’s opener was the first of 200 individual races for this crop that carry a Pearl Series Bonus. In this two-year-old season there are 12 races carrying the Level C bonus.
Way In (2f Thewayyouare – Small Parcels by Danehill) carries the brown and cream colours made famous by Bonecrusher. She is owned by Peter Mitchell who raced the Kiwi legend with Shaune’s father Frank Ritchie.
The win helped Way In climb to second on the Karaka Million Order of Entry behind Kschessinska (Volksraad). Others to earn points for the Karaka Million at Avondale were Staccato (Swiss Ace) and Palace Rock (Fastnet Rock).
Ritchie said the filly will be aimed at the LR Wellesley Stakes at Trentham on October 26.
Way In was a $52,500 buy at the 2013 NZ Bloodstock Select yearling sale. She is the first (NZ) winner by Windsor Park shuttler TheWayYouAre who was a G1 winner of the 2007 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud.
TheWayYouAre (USA) entered stud at Coolmore’s North American base at Ashford Stud before moving to its Irish headquarters in 2011. He is a son of Kingmambo and stands at Windsor Park for a $7,500 fee.
