War Affair (NZ) stamped himself as the best juvenile in Singapore with a commanding win in the G2 Aushorse Golden Horseshoe at Kranji.
Settled in midfield by jockey Joao Moreira, War Affair sailed home once he saw daylight at the top of the straight to score by two lengths on Friday night. “He’s a pretty exciting horse,” said trainer Mark Walker. “He’s kept improving with age and he’s got an exciting future in Singapore. Being by O’Reilly, who is a great sire, I think he will go over more ground here.”
War Affair (2g O’Reilly – Kristique by Kris S) was bred and sold by Trelawney Stud for $70,000 at the 2012 NZB Premier yearling sale. “We had a budget of $100,000 but he went for less,” Walker revealed. “He will have two weeks out and then we will map out a programme.”
The winner is raced by Warplan Racing owners Mr and Mrs Ong who have been great supporters of Walker since he arrived in Singapore.
Waikato Stud champion O’Reilly sired the winner from USA bred mare Kristique. Second-dam Nastique (Naskra) was a G1 winner of the Hollywood Matriarch Stakes and Aqueduct Ladies Hcp.
Singapore’s star-studded international weekend of racing at Kranji began on a high note for New Zealand. The (NZ) brand won 5 of the 9 races on Friday night. Besides War Affair, the Kiwis also won with Supernova (Elusive City), Captain Kirk (Falkirk), Goliath (Darci Brahma) and Makkura (Falkirk).
All five are graduates of NZB National Yearling Sales at Karaka.
