Foreplay isn’t the only recent arrival in Victoria who had a question mark over his future in the breeding barn.
Foreplay (Danehill) experienced fertility issues while based at Yarraman Park in NSW, however, there are 6 PPT results from the first 9 mares he covered at Woodside Park earlier this month.
Eliza Park freshman Wanted is another young sire off to a good start despite being re-routed from the Hunter Valley.
Wanted (Fastnet Rock) was a G1 winner of the VRC Newmarket Handicap and was originally retired to Widden Stud. But its believed connections encountered problems insuring the horse because he is a rig.
Wanted’s owner Eddie Hayson negotiated to transfer the horse to Eliza Park and early results are promising with his first three mares all returning positive tests.
“His libido is good and his fertility is fine,” Hayson said. “He’s been restricted to a book of 80. I’m sending four of my own mares while Eliza Park has 15 going to him.”
Wanted stands at Eliza Park for a fee of $38,500.(inc gst).
Hayson also stands Passenger in conjunction with Blackwatch Stud in Western Australia. His first yearlings will be catalogued for the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.
Passenger (Redoute’s Choice – Perfect Draw by Whiskey Road) was a $900,000 graduate at the 2005 Inglis Easter yearling sale. He was a Canterbury winner on debut for John Hawkes before going amiss after just two starts.
Passenger is a half-brother to Caulfield stakes winner My Juliet (Canny Lad) and AJC Heroic 2YO Championship winner Perfect Crime (Marauding).
Hawkes already had a link with the family through My Juliet’s G1 winning daughter Mnemosyne (Encosta de Lago).
WA bloodstock agent Michael Flannery manages the bookings for Passenger and the horse has struck a chord with Sunspeed breeders with 158 mares in his first two books at a $4,400 fee.
Flannery’s south-west property at Harvey has been targeted by trainers looking to get their hands on a Passenger yearling before the sales. The hype surrounding his stock has seen Flannery sell several youngsters straight out of the paddock this month!
