Volcanic victory maintains momentum for Magnus

Volcanic Ash has maintained the winning end-of-season run for Eliza Park International stallion Magnus.

The Mick Price trained three year-old improved his strike-rate to 4 wins in 7 starts with another convincing victory in the Greg Williams Hcp (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.  He has earned $184,950 which includes $59,100 of VOBIS incentives after being purchased for $70,000 at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale by David and Lynley Puglisi.

“We had a lovely run trailing the speed and he finished off nicely,” jockey Damien Oliver said.  “He’s a real tradesman and Mick has placed him well at this time of year.”

Volcanic Ash (3g Magnus – Silverbeat by Distant Music) is a full brother to Alpha Beat (LR Adelaide Guineas) and a half-brother to Upbeat (G2 Caulfield Autumn Classic).  The trio were bred by Dorrington Park’s Rob Crabtree from stakes winning family that descends from influential broodmare Humour (Pirate King).

Silverbeat has a filly foal by Stratum and is back in foal to Magnus who was a Group 1 winner of the AJC Galaxy for Crabtree, Yallambee Stud and Eliza Park.

Magnus (Flying Spur) broke through the $5 million mark in earnings last week and his current season stats includes 94 winners of 168 races.  He will stand for a $17,600 (inc gst) fee at Eliza Park International at Kerrie this year.
