Congrats led the way for Vinery sires at the Magic Millions National Foal Sale with a colt that made $70,000 on Tuesday.
His Vinery associates Mossman and Myboycharlie (Ire) were also popular with buyers on the Gold Coast this week with their weanlings selling up to $63,000 and $50,000 respectively.
The Congrats – Queen Of State (NZ) colt was purchased by NZ based Shane Crawford of Regal Farm. The youngster is from a South African stakes winning half-sister to Sprint By (G1 Doncaster Hcp) and he has been pin-hooked for the 2014 NZB Karaka yearling sale.
Vinery general manager Peter Orton was bullish about the first Australian-bred crop by Congrats leading up to the National Sale. “He’s siring powerful foals with plenty of bone and strong hind-quarters,” Orton said. “Congrats was the Champion freshman sire in North America and we’re confident they will get up and go early here, too.”
A Congrats colt from Momentous (USA) was in demand selling to Mayfield Bloodstock for $44,000. He is from a stakes-placed Keeneland winner and is a half-brother to Darley filly Vital who has won races at Canterbury and Sandown this season.
Congrats (A P Indy) will serve his third southern book at Vinery this year for a $22,000 (inc gst) fee. His first three northern hemisphere crops have produced 128 winners of 363 races at a sky-high 76% strike-rate.
The Mossman – Attunga Rose (Lot 26) colt that made $63,000 was purchased by Belmont Bloodstock’s Damon Gabbedy and he is a three-quarter brother to South African G3 winner Royal Zulu. Another close relation is the South African G1 sprinter Fighting Warrior (Magic Albert).
Myboycharlie’s foals received a timely update when he sired an international first-crop double on Saturday – a fact that wasn’t lost on Newgate Farm spokesman John Jeffs. “Our two Myboycharlie colts were very popular leading up to the Foal Sale,” Jeffs said. “We rated them both in the Top 5 among the 28 foals we brought up to the Gold Coast.”
Newgate’s Myboycharlie – Lady of Love colt sold for $50,000 to Victorian-based Damian Gleeson of Phoenix Broodmare Farm. He is a descendant of G1 Blue Diamond winner Lady Jakeo.
Newgate’s Myboycharlie – Manhattan Angel colt is the second foal of a Doomben winner and made $43,000. He is also heading to Victoria after being purchased by agent Peter Ford.
Myboycharlie is currently covering his latest northern book at Haras du Mezeray in Normandy. He will stand for a $16,500 (inc gst) fee at Vinery this year.
