Strykum led home a Victorian trifecta in the LR Queen Adelaide Stakes (1050m) at Morphettville on Saturday.
The Lee & Anthony Freedman trained filly won from Thurlow (Robert Smerdon) and Misty Waters (Mike Moroney). “She had put the writing on the wall with some impressive work during the week,” jockey Ben Melham said. “I had the leader covered and she was always travelling. It was a good win.’’
Strykum (2f Stryker – Dinkum Star by Happy Giggle) sold for $12,000 at the 2014 Magic Millions National yearling sale and she is the first stakes winner for her sire who is based at Three Bridges Thoroughbreds at Eddington.
The Stryker filly was racing first-up since going shin-sore as an odds-on favourite at Seymour in December. Her dam Dinkum Star earned black-type as a two year-old in the LR Dequetteville Stakes and she had already foaled winners by Reset, Elvstroem and Fastnet Rock.
Strykum’s younger sister has been catalogued by Ballarto Lodge for the Inglis Great Southern Foal Sale in June.
