Vain Raider relation scores in South Africa

Perth Magic Millions graduate Tropical Empire scored the biggest win of his career when he saluted in the G2 Betting World 1900 at Greyville on Friday night.

A $17,000 purchase from the 2004 Perth Magic Millions, Tropical Emire (6h Second Empire-Tropical Touch by Pago Pago) originally began his career with Michael Roberts before being transferred to the care of Duncan Howells in South Africa.

Friday’s win took the entire’s record to seven wins and nine placings from 27 starts and was his second stakes victory after claiming a Listed race at Scottsville a fortnight earlier.

Tropical Empire is by Longchamp Grand Criterium winner Second Empire (Fairy King) and is one of six winners for the stakes placed West Australian mare Tropical Touch, making him a half brother to Tropical Minx (Carry A Smile), who is the dam of stakes placed sprinter Vain Raider (Kenvain).  This is the same family that produced G1 WATC Derby winner Rare Flyer (Captain’s Wings) and Listed WATC Gimcrack Stakes winner Pluton (Zabaleta).

Tropical Touch has a 3YO colt by Blackfriars named Gutsy Chief, who is a winner in Singapore.  She also has a yearling colt by the Durham Lodge sire.  Following a year off the dam was bred back to the G1 winning son of Danehill.
