Unaccounted For dies in Turkey

Former Lane’s End Farm sire Unaccounted For has died at the Turkish National Stud.  Aged 22, he had been suffering from the equine disease ethmoid hematoma.

Unaccounted For (Private Account–Mrs. Jenney by The Minstrel) was 22.  He retired to Will Farish’s Lane’s End Farm in 1995 after a career highlighted by a G2 victory in the Jim the Dandy Stakes at the expense of Preakness and Belmont Stakes winner Tabasco Cat.

The Scotty Schulhofer trained colt scored at the highest level as a four year-old in the G1 Whitney Hcp.  He was also placed behind Cigar in the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup and G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

He sired six stakes winners before transferring to Turkey in 2002.  He has sired 174 winners there including local G1 winners Mystical Storm and Dervis Aga.

The origins and causes of ethmoid hematoma are generally unknown.  Lesion can be seen extending into the nasal passages and hematomas tend to begin on the sinus floor.
