Tough market at Inglis Scone Sale

North Pole Dancer led a low-key Inglis Scone Sale on Friday when making $36,000 to the bid of locally based nursery Dartbrook Downs.

North Pole Dancer (5m Anabaa – Al Bayan by Zabeel) won a Newcastle maiden for Champion Thoroughbreds in April and she was purchased by Dartbrook Downs directors Jen Butler and Barry McDonald.  The mare had originally cost $120,000 at the 2009 Inglis Easter yearling sale.

Her dam is a sister to Cronus (G1 Adelaide Cup), Pravda (G1 Taranaki Cup) and the dam of Champion Filly Samantha Miss.

“Buyers have become very selective,” Inglis director Jonathan D’Arcy said.  “Many commercial young mares made more than their vendors expected, but the lower end of the market is going through a tough period.”

Brisbane stakes winner Charm’s Honour (Strada) was targeted as the top priced mare of the sale but she failed to reach a $110,000 reserve.  The Scone Sale was held in advance of several stallion parades at studs in and around the Hunter Valley this weekend.
