Tongue tipped at Ascot

Gold Front Thoroughbreds owner Alan Olive has latched on to another talented galloper by leading stallion Stratum.

The Gingin breeder is part of the syndicate that races Saturday’s impressive two year-old winner Hold Your Tongue.  Despite a limited preparation, he started favourite and was a cut above his rivals in the Westspeed 2YO Plate (1100m) at Ascot.

Hold Your Tongue (2g Stratum – Weekend Gossip by Hussonet) sold for $160,000 at the 2013 Gold Coast Magic Millions for a partnership that includes Bill Biggs and Olive.

That price-tag will be paid in one instalment if the gelding is successful in the $250,000 Perth Magic Millions 2YO Classic on February 15.  “He’s pretty good,” trainer Lou Luciani said.  “He only had a couple of 400 metre trials coming into today and had been crook between them so it was an impressive win.”

Hold Your Tongue is the third winner by Stratum from Weekend Gossip following I’m All the Talk (G3 Skyline Stakes) and last-start Randwick winner Straturbo.  Their dam is a half-sister to Group 1 miler Mentality.

The Stratum connection has been a productive one for Olive and his wife Sue.  They raced Divine Calling with Gai Waterhouse and he was runner-up in the G1 Caulfield Guineas earlier this season before transferring to Hong Kong.

Gold Front has entered 13 lots for the Perth Magic Millions on February 18 & 19 and among them is a War Chant colt who received a major update on the Gold Coast earlier this month.  Catalogued as Lot 80, his dam Innsbruck is an unraced half-sister to $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner Unencumbered.

The Olives topped Day 2 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions yearling sale with a Fastnet Rock – Awesome Planet filly that realised $400,000.

Gold Front’s Perth draft can be inspected in Barns 9 and 10 at the Belmont Park sales complex.
