Turangga Farm owner Stuart Ramsey and his sire Zizou combined for another terrific weekend with four winners in 24 hours.
Zizou has sired 17 winners of 25 races with two crops racing. He started the year with feature juvenile winners Marseille Roulette ($250,000 Rosehill Inglis Classic) and Everage (Canberra Lightning Ridge Plate).
Promising homebred Knockabout (Snitzel) was the first to salute for Turangga at Canterbury on Friday evening. He won the Rose Of Mooncoin Hcp (1900m) by two lengths for in-from trainer Bjorn Baker.
Knockabout (3g Snitzel – Revolutions by Spinning World) is from a mare who won three races and was G3 placed in the AJC Adrian Knox Stakes and SAJC Lakewood Stud Stakes in 2004. Ramsey bought her for $70,000 at the 2008 Inglis Easter broodmare sale.
Ramsey put a $70,000 reserve on Knockabout at the 2011 Magic Millions National yearling sale but, when bidding stalled, he sent the youngster to Baker. Friday night’s barrier-to-box victory was the gelding’s second at Canterbury this year and, more importantly, he got the job done in style against more seasoned horses.
Zizou sired his second juvenile feature winner at Kranji when Rappor debuted with a decisive victory in the Rocket Man Stakes (1000m) on Friday evening.
Rappor (2g Zizou – Solysombra by Iglesia) was a $45,000 buy for trainer Theo Kieser at the 2012 Magic Millions National Sale and he follows Zizou gelding Pitstop who claimed the G2 Singapore Golden Horseshoe in May 2012.
“This horse is very laid back and his temperament came through,” Kieser said. “He was more mentally relaxed and handled the lights, the noise from the crowd and the parade ring better than the others.”
Rappor also picked up a $30,000 bonus for owner Too Heng Tien as he was sired in Australia and purchased through Magic Millions.
Zizou (Fusaichi Pegasus) added two more maiden winners on Saturday at Grafton (Ninja Flight) and Toowoomba (Seek The Gold). Ramsey has another likely type named Pinewood ready to debut for Gai Waterhouse. The Zizou filly is progressing nicely after winning a Rosehill trial last week.
Zizou was a Listed winner of the VRC Maribyrnong Trial at Flemington and followed up with seconds to Shrewd Rhythm (G3 Blue Diamond Prelude), Sleek Chassis (G1 Blue Diamond), Meurice (G2 Todman Slipper) and Forensics (G1 Golden Slipper).
He is out of a half-sister to leading Arrowfield sire Not A Single Doubt and the family also features Australian champion sire Snippets.
Turangga stood Zizou for an $11,000 (inc gst) service fee last year.
