The Tattersalls December Sale that finished on Saturday was a triumph for Swettenham shuttler Equiano. His first crops foals combined to sell for an aggregate of over 570,000 guineas (AUD 918,755) and only one of them was passed in.
Leading agent Peter Doyle bought three headed by the colt from Dr Fong mare Classical Dancer for 70,000 guineas (AUD 112,525). His dam was stakes placed twice in England and she is a half-sister to Italian Group 1 winner Imperial Dancer (Primo Dominie).
Other high-profile buyers included Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock, Brian Grassick, Dermot Farrington, Paul Chapman and Abdullah Faleh Nasser of Qatar. The Tattersalls figures follows a similar result at the Goffs Foal Sale earlier last month when an Equiano colt made 90,000 euros (AUD 111,120).
Equiano (Fr) will be back in the spotlight at the Tattersalls Mare Sale this week. There are a total of 19 mares catalogued that were covered by him earlier this year and among them is Ghazal (Gone West).
Catalogued as Lot 1719, Ghazal is a sister to Group 1 winning racehorse and sire Elusive Quality. Raced by Sheikh Hamdan, she won a Newmarket maiden by three lengths and, at stud, has foaled winners by Danehill and Green Desert.
