Tasty Tapits on Gold Coast

Champion USA stallion Tapit served up a tasty entrée when his filly from Leinan (Lot 165) sold for $700,000 on Day 1 of the Gold Coast Magic Millions.

The main course arrives with Vinery’s Tapit colt who enters the Gold Coast sale-ring on Friday

Catalogued as Lot 532, he is from Saratoga Group 2 winner Touch Of Love who has foaled 7 winners from 7 foals to race including Tapit stakes performer Love Train.

Tapit is one of the most influential sires of the modern era in Kentucky.  He was a Group 1 winner of the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct and stands at Gainesway Farm for a $300,000 service fee.

The incomparable grey stallion has been North America’s champion sire since 2014 when his progeny earned $16.81 million to beat the previous record held by Smart Strike since 2007.  He bettered that figure in 2015 and in 2016.

Last year’s premiership was made possible by Group 1 winners the calibre of Creator, Frosted, Time And Motion & Ring Weekend.

His champion filly Untapable landed Group 1 features in the Kentucky Oaks, Mother Goose Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Distaff.  She has since been retired and has been sent to England to be covered by Frankel in February.

Tapit sired his 20th and 21st individual winners when Pretty City Dancer and Sweet Loretta dead-heated in the Group 1 Spinaway Stakes at Saratoga in September.

His superiority has been reflected in the sale-ring where 20 of his yearlings have been knocked down for $1 million or more at auction.
