Swettenham Stud graduate wins G2 in Singapore

Always Certain claimed the second leg of a feature double for Michael Freedman in the G2 Chairman’s Trophy (1800m) at Kranji on Sunday.

Freedman had trained Mr Big to win the G3 Magic Millions Juvenile Championship earlier in the day.

Always Certain (4g Not a Single Doubt – Akarana by Akaaber) led a Magic Millions trifecta from star three-year-old Gingerbread Man (Shamardal) and Risky Business (Danehill Dancer).

Swettenham Stud (as agent) sold Always Certain for 60,000 at the 2008 Gold Coast Magic Millions.  He has now earned almost S$800,000 from 6 wins and 9 placings in 23 starts.

“He’s such a talented horse and it’s very satisfying to finally win a big race for my friend Bernard Lee,” Freedman said.  “Bernard was instrumental in helping me get my licence in Singapore and this horse was one of the first in the stable – so it’s very special.”

The win continued the good run in feature races for jockey John Powell.  He recently captured the Singapore Derby aboard Cliff Brown’s Clint.

Always Certain is by Arrowfield Stud sire Not a Single Doubt and is one of two winners for Listed VRC Vanity Stakes winner Akarana.  The dam is a sister to Tasmanian Derby winner Suavity.
