Swettenham sells best Pierro at Premier Sale

Damon Gabbedy swooped with a $220,000 bid for Swettenham Stud’s Pierro half-brother to Trust In A Gust on Day 3 of the Inglis Premier Sale.

The Belmont Bloodstock agent admitted he was prepared to pay more for the striking brown colt who paraded as Lot 380 on Tuesday morning.  “He’s from a very successful international family,” Gabbedy said.  “And I think he’s the best Pierro in the Premier.”

Swettenham owner Adam Sangster supported Pierro in his first year at stud.  He sent USA bred mare Subtle Breeze (Storm Cat) to Darley in September 2013 and that coincided with Trust In A Gust’s maiden win at Echuca.

It was the start of a meteoric rise that took him to the 2014 Super VOBIS Horse of the Year title and Group 1 victories in the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) and Toorak Hcp (1600m).

Sangster bought Subtle Breeze for $140,000 during the Robert Sangster dispersal at Keeneland in November 2007.  She is a three-quarter sister to Balanchine (Storm Bird) who won the 1994 Irish Derby and English Oaks.

Trust In A Gust (Keep The Faith) will return to Swettenham to start his stud career in September.
