Picture Editor (GB) completed a winning week for Swettenham Stud owner Adam Sangster in the final event of the Warrnambool carnival on Thursday.
Responding to an inspired ride by Michael Walker, Picture Editor burst through a narrow gap on the fence to claim the Fresha Fruit Juices Hcp (1700m) at his second run back from a 20 week spell.
Sangster is a member of the Thoroughbred Club Racing which part-owns Picture Editor and the English import carries Swettenham’s famous emerald green, royal blue and white silks along with the Club’s logo. “It’s great to see the colours winning at the Warrnambool carnival,” Sangster said. “Paul Moroney bought him for us at Tattersalls and he’s done a great job winning in front of such a big audience here and on TVN.”
Swettenham Stud stallion Dash For Cash sired Tuesday’s Warrnambool winner Cash Bound for owner-breeder Gerry Ryan. His Melbourne Cup champion Americain (USA) is slated to serve his first southern book at Swettenham later this year.
Picture Editor (5g Dansili – Shirley Valentine by Shirley Heights) raced for Juddmonte Farms and Sir Henry Cecil in England and won on debut as a two year-old defeating subsequent Group 1 champion Nathanial at Doncaster.
He doubled up the following month at Leicester, winning by 30 lengths as a 1/14 favourite!
Resuming as a three year-old, he led a star-studded field in the G3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury but was no match for his illustrious stablemate Frankel.
Soon after earning black-type in the LR Cocket Hat Stakes at Goodwood, Picture Editor was sold at the Tattersalls HIT Sale. “He’s a nice horse but will need to acclimatise,” Moroney said. “We will get him home and give him a long break.”
Paul’s Flemington based brother Mike Moroney gave him just six starts last year for a large group of owners that includes Thoroughbred Club Racing, Artiste Syndicate, Gurners Bloodstock, Peter Barnett, GG Syndicate, Neville-White Racing, Jade Group, Potsies United, Harold Hansen and Philip Cramer.
Picture Editor is by Juddmonte champion Dansili and is a half-brother to the European G3 winners Memorise (Lyphard) and Multiplex (Danehill). Their dam Shirley Valentine is a half-sister to champion sires Commander In Chief (Dancing Brave), Warning (Known Fact) and Dushyantor (Sadler’s Wells).
