Swettenham announces 2013 Service Fees

Swettenham Stud has released its stallion roster for 2013, and the team in Nagambie couldn’t be more excited for their clients as they are offering a stallion roster that truly delivers something for every breeder’s taste.  From world beating Group 1 champions over five furlongs, to the winner of the world’s best staying race, and everything in between, the Swettenham roster is sure to please.

Heading the line-up is champion sprinter Equiano at a $16,500 (inc gst) service fee.

EQUIANO (Fr) is the son of Europe’s hottest sire ACCLAMATION and will have served over 400 mares in his first three Northern Hemisphere seasons.  “His first foals sold for the equivalent of $115,000 at Tattersalls and $110,000 at Goffs last year,” Swettenham owner Adam Sangster said.  “And his first Australian foals are an outstanding group – our studmaster Brian Gorman said they are real stand-outs.”  His fee remains unchanged in line with demand for the horse and he is sure to be well represented at all major yearling sales in 2013.

Equiano beat the Australian sprinters at their own game with a front running victory in the G1 King’s Stand Stakes (1000m) at Royal Ascot.  “He beat Takeover Target and Magnus as a three-year-old,” Sangster said.  “And then he came back and carried 59kg to defeat Nicconi in 2010.”

AMERICAIN (USA) is the newcomer on the Swettenham roster at a $13,750 (inc gst) fee.  “That’s value plus and the response has been overwhelming,” Sangster said.  “His first mares have already been tested in foal at Calumet Farm and they love him in Kentucky.”

“Americain is a stunning individual and a great stallion prospect.  He’s by champion sire Dynaformer and was a superior stayer with a sensational turn of foot.  He will be booked out before arriving back here in August.”

MASTER OF DESIGN served 140 mares at $12,500 (inc gst) last year and he will cover a second book at the same price in 2013.

“We’re really looking forward to his first foals,” Sangster continued.  “He’s by Redoute’s Choice and it’s the dominant sireline in Australia today.  His bottom-half just drips with black-type, too.”

Master of Design was a $2.1 million yearling and he is the only son of Redoute’s Choice to win a Group 1 at weight-for-age.  And he did it in style, capturing the TJ Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in a time (1.08.83s) that’s only ever been bettered by Black Caviar!

HOST (CHI) is the stallion with definite X-Factor in Victoria.  Gilgai Farm owner Rick Jamieson believes Host will develop into a very successful stallion and he knows success having bred Black Caviar.

“Rick believes HOST will nick particularly well with mares by Sir Tristram, Encosta de Lago and Red Ransom,” Sangster said.  “He sires commercial types and they were popular at the latest Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale averaging $85,000.”

HOST colt PHILIPPI is a homebred for Jamieson and he has put the writing on the wall for the Sydney Autumn Carnival with a strong second in the G2 Alister Clark Stakes at Moonee Valley.  He is nominated for both the G1 Rosehill Guineas this Saturday and the G1 Australian Derby on April 13.

HOST is a Group 1 winning son of Hussonet and the buzz surrounding his stock suggests this season could be his last at a $9,900 (inc gst) fee.

SOLDIER’S TALE (USA) $8,800 (inc gst) oldest progeny (three year olds) have enjoyed a fairly strong season.  “We have had a number of trainers approach us excited about his very promising three-year-old progeny.  Watch this space.” Sangster said.

DASH FOR CASH is remarkable value at $7,700 (inc gst).  He is the Mr Consistency of the Victorian industry since retiring to Swettenham with 265 individual winners of 711 races at a 61% strike-rate.  He is the sire of stakes winners of the calibre of ARINOSA, DASHITUDE and CHASE THE RAINBOW.

Dash For Cash yearlings sold for 10 times his service fee at the 2013 Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

BIANCONI (USA) has never been more reliable and right now never more affordable.  He has a consistency rating on par with Dash For Cash and he is also available for a $7,700 (inc gst) fee.  A very successful son of Danzig with statistics that take some beating – his tally of wins in the last five seasons have been 150 – 182 – 193 – 160 and 148.

KAPHERO sired his first winner Kappytain a week after the Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.  “The vibe among trainers was strong at Oaklands,” Sangster explained.  “He had two colts sell for $80,000 each at Oaklands and we’re looking forward to the rest of the two-year-old racing season.”

Kaphero has had five of his first crop to race in Australia so far, all earning prizemoney.  His books continue to grow and he will serve in excess of 100 mares this season with a fee of $6,600 (incl gst).
