Sunspeed leader from Lynward Park

Alfred Nobel (Ire) has taken over at the top of the Sunspeed first-season table following another win by his smart filly Regal Gleam.

The Lynward Park freshman has now sired the winners of $329,350 this season to head previous leader War Chant ($319,405).

Regal Gleam (2f Alfred Nobel – Darntime by Danetime) had won by three lengths at Belmont on May 13 before doubling up in the Creating New Destinies Plate (1300m) on Saturday.  “The quick back-up really didn’t suit her,” trainer Simon Miller said.  “She will improve off the back of today’s win and I think she will get a mile.”

Prominent businessman Michael Kailis owns Regal Gleam and he also raced her dam Darntime to four wins in Perth.  The mare’s second foal by Alfred Nobel sold to Ormond Nominees for $8,000 last year and she also has a colt on the ground by Trade Fair.

Alfred Nobel (Danehill Dancer) kick-started his stud career in Australia when Showy Chloe won the G3 WA Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Ascot last month.  He will stand for a $4,950 (inc gst) fee in 2015.

Hoofnote: Alfred Nobel’s Italian-based filly Crazy Feeling won her second race this month at Siracusa on Saturday night. She won the Premio Vinca Major (1200m) for owner Mark Cuschieri after breaking through second-up at the same venue on May 9.
