Stylish stakes winner for Not A Single Doubt

Gary Portelli won his second LR Keith Mackay Quality, albeit ten years apart, when Single Style claimed this year’s edition in a photo-finish at Randwick.

The Warwick Farm trainer won it with Before Too Long in 2002 and she went on to a G2 success in the Champagne Stakes at Moonee Valley as a spring three year-old.

Single Style also continued the winning run of Not A Single Doubt in the two year-old ranks this season.  He is keeping pace with More Than Ready who has sired the winners of 14 juvenile races in Australia.  The Arrowfield Stud sire is right on his hammer with 13.

Single Style (2f Not A Single Doubt – Furla by Spartacus) was placed at Canterbury on debut before breaking through at her home track on April 4.  She was a $150,000 buy from Esker Lodge at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale.  “I loved her from the outset,” Portelli revealed.  “And I wasn’t leaving the Melbourne sale without her.

“I’ve put a reputation on her and I believe it will be justified,” Portelli declared after Single Style defeated Magic Millions Classic winner Drieftontein in a head-bobber.  “I declared her on Tuesday morning as long as the track dried up.”

Single Style is a three-quarter sister to Flemington G3 winner Doubtful Jack (Not a Single Doubt).  Her dam Furla was trained by Mick Price for two wins at Sandown and her first foal Fab Fevola (Falvelon) has won five races and been stakes placed in Brisbane.

Furla has foaled fillies by Thorn Park and Show a Heart for the last two years and she returned to Arrowfield to be covered by Not A Single Doubt in November.
