Stratum available at $44,000 in 2012

Group 1 racehorse and sire Stratum headlines Widden Stud’s 2012 roster at a $44,000 service fee.

Stratum’s asking price illustrates the challenges of the current marketplace.  He has enjoyed unprecedented success since retiring to stud, however, his fee has dropped twice in the last two years from a $60,500 high in 2010.

Stratum (Redoute’s Choice) was the Champion Australian first and second season sire and is current leading the third season premiership by winners, earnings and stakes-winners.

“He is clearly the most dominant stallion of his generation,” Widden owner Anthony Thompson said.  “With an Easter average last week of over $190,000, it’s a testament to our commitment to offer value that we stand Stratum at a slightly reduced fee this season.
