Steady as she goes for Planet Rock

New Zealand Filly of the Year Planet Rock (NZ) is back in work in preparation for her comeback to the racetrack.

Planet Rock (4m Fastnet Rock – Akris by Zabeel) has been unsighted since an unplaced run in the G2 Concorde Hcp at Ellerslie in December.  That was her first outing since pulling up last in the G1 New Zealand Oaks in March.

“We’re taking things slowly with her but I’m happy with where she is at so far,” trainer Peter Williams said.  “We don’t have a target date or race for her return as it is too early to say but we do have Auckland Cup week in the back of our minds if she continues to make progress.”

The Riccarton based mare was purchased by Ger Beemsterboer from Wellfield Lodge for $290,000 at NZ Bloodstock’s 2010 Karaka Premier Sale.  She was the outstanding three year-old filly of her generation winning the G1 NZ 1000 Guineas, G2 Eight Carat Classic and G3 Lowland Stakes (2100m).

Planet Rock is a half-sister to Montjeu stallion Gorky Park who stands at Paxton Park in Cambridge.  Their dam Akris has an unraced 3yo gelding named Ringo (Fastnet Rock) and she followed up with two colts by Alamosa.
