Starspangledbanner will stand the 2015 southern hemisphere season at Rosemont Stud for $44,000 (inc gst). He was priced at $16,500 (inc gst) last year.
The Royal Ascot-winning sprinter has enjoyed a stellar start at stud with his first northern crop – who were limited in number due to sub-fertility – headlined by G1 Prix Morny hero The Wow Signal, G2 Queen Mary Stakes winner Anthem Alexander and recent LR European Free Hcp winner Home Of The Brave.
His first crop of Australian bred juveniles is headed by G3 Blue Diamond Prelude winner Of The Brave.
Starspangledbanner (Choisir) joined the Coolmore Stud roster in 2011 following a career that yielded Group 1 wins in both hemispheres but returned to training in 2012 due to fertility issues. However, after failing to show the same spark on course, he returned to stand to his birthplace at Rosemont Stud in Victoria.
“He looks like he’s going to be a high-end stallion and the hard work getting mares in foal might pay considerable dividends,” Rosemont owner Anthony Mithen said. “We think the risk versus reward balance is well reflected in his $44,000 covering fee. He is filling up super-fast with a couple of big local breeders already booking in mares.”
Starspangledbanner had been due to return to Coolmore Stud’s Irish headquarters for the 2015 northern hemisphere season but remained in Australia following a bout of colic.
He stands at Rosemont alongside Toorak Toff ($16,500) and Starcraft ($9,900).
