Arrowfield stallions Starcraft and Snitzel continued their successful tandem act during Day 3 at the Gold Coast Magic Millions on Friday.
Starcraft was a world champion miler winning five Group 1 races in four countries while Snitzel was a G1 winner of the Oakleigh Plate at three. They both retired to Arrowfield in 2006 and, together, have sired 14 stakes winners.
Starcraft reached a new plateau when his colt from Top Cuban (Lot 375) made $290,000 to the bid of Blue Sky Thoroughbreds. Top Cuban (Anabaa) is in foal again to Starcraft. She is from a three-quarter sister to G1 winner Slew City Slew.
Friday’s price exceeded the $270,000 paid by Badgers Bloodstock for Arrowfield’s Starcraft – Ain’t Seen Nothin’ filly at the 2009 Magic Millions. That filly was named Ain’tnofallenstar and she won twice at stakes level in Adelaide last year.
Snitzel also achieved a personal best price on Friday when Sydney trainer John O’Shea went to $350,000 for his colt from LR Gosford Slipper winner Ultimate Fever (Lot 390).
That’s $40,000 more than his previous high paid by Gai Waterhouse for a colt from Royal Pageant at the 2011 Magic Millions. Named Chronicle, he has had only one start for an unplaced appearance in the LR Breeders’ Plate in October.
Royal Pageant is in foal to Arrowfield stallion Manhattan Rain.
The Snitzels have averaged $161,000 on the Gold Coast so far this week and Arrowfield will offer his strapping filly from Flidais on Saturday evening. Her value will improve if Snitzel claims the $2 million Gold Coast 2YO Classic earlier in the day with either Sizzling or Amorino.
