Dances On Stars (NZ) will head north after winning the G3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) on the first day of Randwick’s autumn carnival.
Dances On Stars (2c Snitzel – Starnet by Last Tycoon) will follow the same path as stablemate Hot Snitzel (Snitzel) and be set for a Queensland winter campaign. The Gerald Ryan trained colt raced in a forward position before hitting the front early in the straight on Saturday. He fought back gamely when challenged by Agueda (General Nediym) to score by a neck.
Ryan’s flying colt Hot Snitzel finished third in the Kindergarten 12 months ago and went on to win the LR Ken Russell Memorial at the Gold Coast and G2 Queensland Sires’ Produce Stakes at Eagle Farm.
“The Ken Russell Memorial is in a month and then there’s the Doomben Classic,” Ryan said. “It will be the same as Hot Snitzel last year but we probably won’t finish off in the T J Smith. I don’t think he will get a mile.”
Dances on Stars was bred by the Hong Kong Breeders Club and was a $95,000 purchase for Dynamic Syndications from the draft of Highview Stud at the 2011 NZB Premier Yearling Sale.
His dam Starnet will be offered as Lot 644 at the 2012 National Weanling & Broodmare Sale starting on May 7 at Karaka.
Arrowfield has just announced Snitzel’s fee for 2012 has been raised from $27,500 to $33,000. Dances On Stars is his third stakes winning juvenile this season following stablemates Flying Snitzel (Listed ATC Schweppervescence Stakes) and Snitzerland (G3 VRC Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes).
Snitzerland was also runner-up to champion colt Pierro in the G1 Golden Slipper and she has banked $875,000 so far this season.
Snitzel has sired 7 winners and 7 placegetters in the 2011-12 juvenile division for earnings of $1.65 million. He is fourth on the 2YO sires’ premiership behind Lonhro ($2.85 million), More Than Ready ($2.03m) and Fastnet Rock ($1.72m).
