Spendthrift shuttles Jimmy Creed to Australia

Group 1 winning sprinter Jimmy Creed (USA) has been added to the Spendthrift Australia roster for 2015.

Jimmy Creed (Distorted Humor) retired to Spendthrift’s Kentucky farm last year after victories in the G1 Malibu Stakes (1400m) and G2 Potrero Grande Hcp (1300m) at Santa Anita.

“There hasn’t been a faster Group 1 winning son of Distorted Humor and definitely not many with his combination of looks and pedigree,” Spendthrift owner B. Wayne Hughes said.  “He represents the complete package, and his first foals to arrive in America this year have been as good as any group we’ve seen by a first-year stallion.  We believe Australian breeders are going to love him.”

Jimmy Creed is from Hookedonthefeelin (Citidancer) and cost Hughes $900,000 at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale.  His dam won the 1999 G1 La Brea Stakes at Santa Anita and she also foaled 2005 Le Brea winner Pussycat Doll.

After winning a Hollywood Park maiden and Del Mar allowance, Jimmy Creed finished his three year-old season with a Group 1 victory in the Malibu Stakes (1400m) clocking a superb 1.20.36s.  “It was a good learning experience,” jockey Garrett Gomez said.  “I have a lot of confidence in this horse and he just keeps getting better.”

Trainer Richard Mandella brought the colt back for a 2013 Breeders’ Cup Sprint campaign and he won the G2 Potrero Grande Hcp before an off-fore ankle injury forced him into retirement after just 10 starts.  “He’s a gorgeous horse with great conformation and exceptional ability,” Mandella said.  “He was very fast and very classy and the well was only half tapped.”

Jimmy Creed’s sire Distorted Humor (Forty Niner) has been represented by 124 stakes winners, including 7 in Australia, after shuttling to Independent Stallions in Victoria in 1999 and 2000.

Spendthrift Australia is rolling out the first roster for its new Victorian farm at Romsey – Jimmy Creed joins Warrior’s Reward (Medaglia d’Oro) and there will be more additions in the weeks ahead.

Jimmy Creed’s “Share The Upside” fee will be $11,000 (inc gst) and he will also be offered at $8,800 (inc gst) on a standard live foal contract.
