Spendthrift Farm stands Dublin in New York

Spendthrift Farm has purchased Group 1 winner Dublin to stand at stud in 2012.

Dublin (Afleet Alex) emulated his sire by landing the G1 Hopeful Stakes at Saratoga in 2009.  He returned at three to finish second in the G1 Arkansas Derby but was unplaced in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes.

Dublin was retired last month after suffering an injury during his four-year-old seasonal debut at Churchill Downs.

Spendthrift is based at Lexington in Kentucky and is expanding into New York.  Dublin will stand at Keane Stud which is situated in the Hudson Valley between New York city and Saratoga Springs.

“New York breeders should be very familiar with Dublin,” Spendthrift Farm general manager Ned Toffey said.  “He was a G1 winner in that State as were both his sire and dam Classy Mirage.”

Dublin was purchased for $525,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale.  “He was my No.1 pick at Keeneland,” trainer D. Wayne Lukas claimed.  “He’s one of the best-looking horses I’ve ever trained.”

Dublin is one of 8 winners for Classy Mirage (Storm Bird).  His dam won the G1 Ballerina Hcp at Saratoga and G2 races at Belmont (3) and Aqueduct (2).
