Soldier’s Tale a Hit at Magic Millions

Swettenham Stud sire Soldier’s Tale was given another vote of confidence on the Gold Coast this week when his sole Magic Millions yearling made $80,000.

The Soldier’s Tale – Broadway Hit filly (Lot 498) was presented by Hunter Valley based Amarina Farm and was purchased by Perth trainer Lindsey Smith.

Amarina studmaster Craig Anderson was confident the filly would make good money in the lead-up to the sale.  “She was constantly out of the box,” Anderson said from his Barn X base at the Gold Coast complex.  “She’s a big, strong filly for a first foal.”

Soldier’s Tale’s first yearlings sold up to $100,000 last year and they are ready to debut in the coming months.

Soldier’s Tale (Stravinsky) went head-to-head with Takeover Target in the 2007 Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot and beat the Aussie champ on his merits.  He stands for an $8,500 fee at Swettenham.

His Broadway Hit filly comes from a family that Lindsey Smith would have seen at close quarters in Perth.  The dam won at Ascot and is a sister to last year’s G1 WA Derby winner Dreamaway.

Soldier’s Tale has 2 colts catalogued for the Perth Magic Millions on February 14 and there are another 12 entered for the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale starting on February 27.

Swettenham has catalogued 4 of the 7 Soldier’s Tale yearlings going under the hammer at the Adelaide Magic Millions in March.
