Peter Snowden will quit Darley after the Sydney Autumn Carnival to set up a stable with his son Paul.
Snowden has been Darley’s Head Trainer in Australia since May 2008. “I’m proud of all that we have achieved,” Snowden said. “It is the right time to move on and take on a new challenge with Paul – it’s something we have always wanted.
“Sheikh Mohammed has provided me with an amazing opportunity and I will be forever grateful. When the time comes we will deal with the farewells but for now my focus is on producing results for Darley.”
Snowden took over from John Hawkes six years ago and a major highlight of his tenure was a clean sweep of the 2011 Sydney 2YO Triple Crown with Sepoy and Helmet.
Darley’s Australian managing director Henry Plumptre indicated transition plans were in place and Darley would take its time in appointing a replacement. Sportingbet has already framed a market with Anthony Freedman favourite at $3.50 followed by Guy Walter ($4) and Bjorn Baker ($5).
