Snitzel starts Golden Slipper day in style

Snitzel opened Golden Slipper day in winning style with Flying Snitzel in the LR Schweppervescence Stakes over 1400m.

It was an auspicious start for the Arrowfield stallion who has Snitzerland and Amorino engaged in the G1 Golden Slipper Stakes.  The trio are all prepared by Gerald Ryan at Rosehill.

Flying Snitzel (2f Snitzel – Hula Flight by Hula Town) will be set for the G1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on April 28 after a dominant victory on Saturday.  She settled three wide with cover and sustained a strong finish to score a convincing victory over Dear Demi (Dehere) and Strength (Casino Prince).

“I’ve always said she was a 1400m to 1600m horse,” Ryan declared.  “We will bypass the Sires’ Produce Stakes and go straight into the Champagne Stakes.”

Snitzel got the winner from deceased Arrowfield mare Hula Flight who was a G1 winner of the 1996 AJC Metropolitan.  Triple Crown Bloodstock owners Michael and Chris Ward bought her for $25,000 from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2011 Inglis Melbourne Premier yearling sale

The Ward brothers are confirmed Snitzel fans.  They combined with Ryan to race brilliant colt Hot Snitzel who won the G2 Queensland Sires’ Produce Stakes and LR Ken Russell Memorial at the 2011 Brisbane winter carnival.

Snitzel (Redoute’s Choice) has a colt from Vinery (ex Sunset Express) and a filly from Crowning Stone (ex Be Kool) entered for the Inglis Easter yearling sale this week.  The filly is catalogued as Lot 564 and is a three-quarter sister to LR Bendigo Cup winner Zupacool (Redoute’s Choice).
