Sensational young sire Snitzel went hunting for new stakes winners at the Gold Coast and came up with two in a couple of hours.
Le Val and Express Power increased his stakes winner tally to 15 on Saturday. And 11 of them have achieved that status this season, helping him into the Top 10 sires on the Australian General 2YO & 3YO Sires’ lists.
Le Val (2g Snitzel – Redaluca’s Gaze by Intergaze) stepped up to stakes company to win the LR Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) from Londehero and Diamond Oasis. He had showed ability when second on debut at Eagle Farm last month.
Bred in partnership by Jamie and Fiona Middleton under the Redbank North banner, Le Val is Snitzel’s third consecutive winner of the Ken Russell Classic, following Hot Snitzel in 2011, and Sizzling in 2012. He was sold for $110,000 at the 2012 Gold Coast Magic Millions to RMA Bloodstock for owners Robert and Deborah Anderson and trainer Noel Doyle.
His dam Redaluca’s Gaze comes from the immediate family of stakes winners Emotive and Imprisoned. She has a yearling filly by Snitzel and a weanling filly by Not A Single Doubt.
Arrowfield graduate Express Power headed a quinella for the Kris Lees in the LR Gold Coast Bracelet (1800m). She defeated stablemate Soapy Star by a length.
Bred by Arrowfield and John Leaver’s Planette Thoroughbred, Express Power was purchased for $140,000 at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions by Sydney-based owner Walter Power.
Express Power (3f Snitzel – Lady’s Delight by Local Talent) has now won four races and she also ran second to subsequent G1 Australian Oaks winner Royal Descent in the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes. Her major target in Brisbane is the G1 Queensland Oaks on June 1.
Her dam Lady’s Delight has two northern-time colts by Redoute’s Choice, the first owned by Bijoux Bloodstock in New Zealand and the second retained by Arrowfield and Leaver. She is now in foal to Charge Forward.
NZ bred Snitzel gelding Dances on Stars completed an excellent day at the Gold Coast by running third in the G3 Gold Coast Guineas.
Snitzel stands the 2013 season at Arrowfield for a fee of $49,500 (inc gst).
