Raheen Stud’s Group 1 graduate Atomic Force will return to racing in the LR Slickpix Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield next month.
Atomic Force (6g Danehill Dancer – Show of Force by Luskin Star) was a $50,000 buy from the Raheen Stud draft at the 2007 Gold Coast Magic Millions and he will begin next season with $906,000 in the bank.
The short-course star hasn’t looked back since Dynamic Syndications transferred him to Darren Smith’s stables in March 2010. He had won just two of 13 starts during prior spells with Chris Waller, John Hawkes and Kevin Moses.
He won 9 of his next 24 starts with Smith and the Newcastle trainer said he looks as good as ever after a beneficial spell. “We will probably stick to the same pattern as last year,” trainer Darren Smith said. “The Slickpix is a set weights race around Caulfield and then we will just take it step by step.”
After scoring an on-pace victory in the 2011 Slickpix, Atomic Force was beaten a nose and a nose by Buffering and Crystal Lily in a blanket finish to the G3 McEwen Stakes.
He followed up with an unplaced effort in Sepoy’s G1 Manikato Stakes before winning at Canterbury in the lead-up to a G1 triumph NZ Railway Stakes at Ellerslie.
It was his second triumph at the elite level after The Galaxy at Randwick in April 2011.
And it vindicated Smith who believed the gelding had earned a start on his merits in the G1 International Sprint at Sha Tin last December instead of being overlooked by the Hong Kong Jockey Club.
