Sister to Irish Fling at Karaka

First-time NZB Karaka Premier Sale vendor Milan Park achieved a dream result when Irish Fling captured the G1 Telegraph Hcp (1200m) at Trentham.

The Cambridge-based stud will offer a full-sister to the mare as Lot 59 in the Premier Sale next Monday.

Irish Fling (5m Darci Brahma – Irish Belle by O’Reilly) is a homebred for Milan Park owner Tony Rider who has five yearlings in the Premier Sale.  She unleashed a powerful finishing burst to defeat Natuzzi (Coats Choice) by a neck first-up in the Railway on Saturday.

It was her second black-type victory following the LR Pegasus Stakes in November.

“She was really well in herself but you are never confident going into a Group 1, especially fresh,” co-trainer Guy Lowry said.  “We galloped her in the morning and then she would have a swim in the afternoon which lifted her workload.

“I have been training for Tony for a while and we’re pretty good mates.  This mare’s dam Irish Belle was fairly handy and I have trained a couple of her earlier foals.  They showed plenty but neither had much luck.

“Value-wise, it would be great to get some black-type in Australia so we will plan on getting her to the Group 1 Galaxy.”

The Railway was the second leg of a Group 1 double for Darci Brahma after Recite’s success in the Levin Classic earlier in the day at Trentham.  Darci Brahma has 52 yearlings catalogued at NZB National Yearling Sales Series next week.
