The racing future of Jolie’s Shinju in up in the air after she was beaten 10 lengths in the Yew Tee Classic at Kranji last Saturday.  A spring campaign with Tony Noonan was in the pipeline but those plans have been shelved.

The Singapore Horse of the Year sustained a suspensory ligament injury and trainer Hideyuki Takaoka will recommend to owner Dr Tan Kai Chah she is retired forthwith.  

Jolie’s Shinju (6m Jolie’s Halo – Endearing Quality by Danzig) was bred in Japan and Dr Tan will now weigh up breeding options in Japan and Australia.  An Arrowfield Stud stallion is favoured if she is sent Down Under.

“Wherever she goes, I hope she will become a good broodmare,” Dr Tan said.   “Who knows, we may one day race one of her foals or fillies here in Singapore.”

Jolie’s Shinju was purchased by Dr Tan’s Hippocrates Stable at the 2006 Hokkaido Autumn Sale for 3.15 million yen (AUD 35,610).  She was a five length winner of the 2009 Singapore Derby before arriving in Australia to be prepared for the 2009 Cox Plate.

Her spring campaign began on a bright note when third to Whobegotyou and Mic Mac in the G2 Dato Tan Chin Nam Stakes at Moonee Valley but she didn’t figure in subsequent outings in Melbourne.

Jolie’s Shinju is by Jolie’s Halo (Halo) who was a G1 winner of the Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park and the Phillip H. Iselin Handicap at Monmouth Park.  He entered stud at Bridlewood Stud in Florida and was relocated to East Stud in Japan three years later.  He died following a paddock accident at the Hokkaido stud in June 2005 aged 18.

Her dam Endearing Quality is an unraced sister to Qualify who was a G1 winner of the Del Mar Futurity.  He was also runner-up in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.  Second-dam So Endearing (Raise a Native) is a winning three-quarter-sister to the dam of former Australian shuttler Belong To Me.
