Shadai welcomes half-brother to Animal Kingdom

A half-brother to Animal Kingdom was born at Shadai Farm on Wednesday.

The colt is by Champion Japanese stallion Deep Impact out of Dalicia (Acatenango).  The Group 3 winning mare was purchased by Shadai for 230,000 guineas at the 2009 Tattersalls December sale.  Animal Kingdom is her only winner from three starters to date.

Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux) won the 2011 G1 Kentucky Derby for Team Valor.  A controlling interest in him was purchased by Arrowfield Stud shortly before his G1 victory in the Dubai World Cup last month.  Darley subsequently acquired a significant stake in the five year-old.

Animal Kingdom arrived in England earlier this week for a possible Royal Ascot assignment in the Queen Anne Stakes or the Prince of Wales Stakes.  He will retire to Arrowfield Stud later this year and shuttle to Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky.

Shadai sire Deep Impact (Sunday Silence) was a two-time Horse of the Year in Japan.  He has started stud life in overdrive with 31 stakes winners in his first three crops topped by Gentildonna who was awarded Japan’s Horse of the Year award in 2012.
