Henny Hughes sired the seventh stakes winner from his first two crops in Delaware on Wednesday. The former Darley shuttler will cover his first Sunspeed mares at Rangeview Stud this year.
Welcome Dance (3f Henny Hughes – Choreograph by Dynaformer) opened her black-type bank with a determined victory in the LR Walking In Da Sun Stakes. After a couple of weeks on the easy list under the steady hand of trainer Michael Matz, she was primed for an all-the-way victory over 1700 metres.
It improved her strike-rate to 3 wins from 7 starts and she also earned a Listed placing in the Edgewood Stakes at Churchill Downs. It was a welcome change of luck for Matz. Earlier this week his G1 Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags was sidelined for the rest of the year with a tendon injury.
Welcome Dance is a homebred for Kentucky based Ramona Bass and is from a winning daughter of G1 Santa Anita Oaks placed filly Dance for Vanny (Sovereign Dancer).
Rangeview studmaster Robbie Gray will stand Henny Hughes for a $7,700 (inc gst) fee this year.
