Group 1 sprinter-miler Lucky Hussler is back in work for a second tilt at the G1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on November 7.
He was narrowly beaten by Hucklebuck in last year’s edition of the Emirates Stakes that highlights the final day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.
Lucky Hussler is a first-crop son of Vinery sire Husson (Arg) and he made amends in the G1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley in March. “He came back better than ever for that autumn campaign and is just as good this time in,” trainer Darren Weir said. “The Emirates is his goal.”
A $100,000 buy for Glen Makauskas at the 2011 Gold Coast Magic Millions, he is from a half-sister to Australian Horse of the Year Weekend Hussler. Husson was an undefeated Champion 2YO in Chile and, like Weekend Hussler, is a son of champion sire Hussonet.
Lucky Hussler (5g Husson – Talaq Dancer by Black Hawk) was a stakes winner of the Vo Rogue Plate and George Moore Stakes in Brisbane before transferring to Weir’s seaside stable at Warrnambool last year. “The boys down at the beach do a great job,” he said. “We couldn’t do without them.”
