Widden Stud’s Golden Slipper winner Sebring has been installed an odds-on favourite for the 2012-13 Australian first-season winners’ premiership.
Sportingbet has opened Sebring at $1.65 for the title ahead of his fellow Widden resident Northern Meteor ($2.50). They are followed by Real Saga (Glenlogan Park) at $10, Murtajill (Patinack Farm) at $13 and Coolmore duo Henrythenavigator ($15) and Duke Of Marmalade ($17).
Sportingbet priced Darley shuttler Bernardini as the opening $4.40 favourite in the season just gone despite not racing as a two year-old himself. He sired just 4 individual winners – well behind Husson who won with 11 winners. The Patinack freshman had been available at $17.
Darley sire Nadeem was the opening $2.50 favourite in 2010-11 and, in a four way tie, he shared the spoils with Red Dazzler ($7), All Bar One ($26) and Ad Valorem ($26). They all sired 8 individual winners in Australia that season.
The 2009-10 winners’ premiership was won by Stratum who opened a $2.40 favourite at the start of the season. Jet Spur was initially quoted at $6 but firmed into an odds-on favourite after siring 10 winners by March. But the Glenlogan Park sire was becalmed after Easter and was overtaken by Stratum 13-12.
The first-season record of 16 individual winners is held by More Than Ready (2004-05) and Lion Hunter (2001-02).
