Sebring colt centre-stage for Raheen Stud

Raheen Stud will set the tone for January’s Gold Coast Magic Millions with a cracking colt by leading first-season sire Sebring.

Catalogued as Lot 1, the Sebring – La Goulue colt will take centre-stage in front of an industry eager to get an early indication of what’s in store for vendors and buyers in 2013.

“They won’t be disappointed,” Raheen’s Basil Nolan jnr declared. “He’s an outstanding athlete and he’s got a pedigree that’s improving all the time.”

Sebring (More Than Ready) jumped the gun with his two year-olds this season. The 2008 Golden Slipper winner sired city winners Criterion, Bring a Ring and Australia Day to take an early lead for the first-season sires’ premiership.

His Raheen Stud colt is the second foal from La Goulue. A Danehill Dancer mare, she was trained by Peter Moody to win races at Moonee Valley (2) and Caulfield and she also earned black-type at Morphettville.

Her first foal by Testa Rossa was an $85,000 buy for Gary Portelli at the 2012 Adelaide Magic Millions. Now named Loutrel, he was described as a “spectacular colt” by the Warwick Farm trainer during a recent open day at his stables. “He’s a beautiful chestnut,” Portelli said. “He has a strong shoulder line and a big back-end.”

La Goulue is a half-sister to Group 1 winners Gimmethegreenlight (South African Queen’s Plate) and Ofcourseican (Coolmore Classic).

Gimmethegreenlight is by Champion sire More Than Ready and the Sebring connection makes Raheen’s colt an even closer relation to the South African star who has just finished serving his first book of mares at Varfontein Stud in the Cape Province.

Raheen Stud has 14 lots catalogued for the Gold Coast Magic Millions. Among them are yearlings by Hunter Valley sires Flying Spur, Testa Rossa, Commands, Northern Meteor, Haradasun and Nicconi plus three colts by Champion Queensland stallion Show A Heart.
