Same service fee for Written Tycoon

Written Tycoon will head the Woodside Park Stud roster at an unchanged fee of $12,500 (plus gst) in 2014.

Written Tycoon has had another consistent year at stud and is now firmly established as one of the best stallions in Victoria.  “We took a long time before deciding to keep Written Tycoon at the same fee because he’s had another terrific season,” said Woodside Park’s nominations manager Suman Hedge.

“He’s such a popular horse but we did not want to get ahead of ourselves and bump him up too soon.  Keeping him there for one more year is a reward for breeders who have faith in the horse.”

The son of Iglesia has been represented by recent stakes winners It is Written and Written Up.  He has also maintained a healthy 61% winners-to-runners strike-rate and stakes performers-to-runners of 8.0%.

“He’s just such a good consistent provider of winners and is an ideal stallion to use with a young mare and get her off to a good start,” Hedge added.  “There are other proven stallions in Victoria who are doing a good job but I would challenge anybody to nominate a stallion that is performing as well as Written Tycoon on the track and in the sales ring.”

Written Tycoon yearlings sold up to $240,000 this year.  “At the end of the day, breeders can pay the equivalent for the unknown or go to Written Tycoon, a horse that gets great types, sells well and produces runners.  He ticks every box.”

Woodside Park Stud has also announced the return of proven stallion Foreplay who will stand for $6,000 (plus gst).  He spent last season at Wattle Grove Stud in NSW.

“Foreplay is a proven stallion who had the early part of his stud career compromised by fertility issues,” Hedge continued.  “However, this is no longer a problem and the horse is now performing tremendously.”

The son of Danehill has enjoyed fertility of over 88% since being managed with stem cell treatment.  “The horse hasn’t looked back since we started treating him.  Our stud manager Gerard Jones and farm vet Ian Douglas have really found the key to him.”

Foreplay has producing three individual stakes winners and 85 winners at a 70% strike-rate.  “He’s done an admirable job at stud,” Hedge added.  “He  represents tremendous value for a stallion that is a cracking type and gets plenty of winners.”
