Ryan making progress with Removal

Pluck (USA) colt Removal could be the catalyst to establish Nick Ryan as a successful trainer in Victoria.

Ryan was crowned Melbourne’s champion jockey as an apprentice in 2005 and now he’s making inroads as part of the Aquanita Racing team at Caulfield.

He linked with close mate Luke Currie to win the Hyundai Hcp (1000m) with Removal at Warrnambool on Wednesday.  It was the 4th win in 8 starts for the colt who was a $55,000 buy at the 2015 Magic Millions National yearling sale.

“I walked the track with Luke and we realised the place to be was off the fence,” Ryan explained.  “This horse is a progressive type and there are lots of options for him in town starting with a race at Moonee Valley later this month.”

Removal won a Swan Hill maiden in November and he struck again at Yarra Valley and Ballarat before heading to Warrnambool.

Ryan recalled riding winners for Darren Weir at the May Carnival and was relieved to see the King of Warrnambool didn’t have a runner against Removal.  “I’ve got a pretty good opinion of this horse and I was confident when he trained on so well after Ballarat.”

Removal was the pick of the parade ring and was backed into a $3.60 favourite.  The 3yo colt settled nicely for Currie and then let down like a good sort in the straight.

Pluck (More Than Ready) stands for a $9,900 (inc gst) service fee at Vinery and his latest winner is a younger half-brother to Eagle Farm winner Combatant (Jet Spur).
